    Brush rolls need replaced. It's a sad truth that we haven't invented a material that will take the beating that your vacuum's bristles take and never wear down. Well, at least one that isn't going to just shred your carpet and floor instead of brushing the debris up where your vacuum can take care of it. Until they do, you should swap your brush roller about once every 18 months. With a free couple of hours and a basic set of tools, you can restore your vacuum to its old self; the vacuum you remember.
