    Humidifiers are great for relieving those cold dry winter days where every movement across your carpet generates a sharp static shock when you touch something else. But that soothing mist has to come from somewhere. Unless you use pure distilled water in your humidifier, there are going to be chemicals and minerals dissolved which you don't want to be in your air. That's where the wick comes in. It does double duty as a filter as well, keeping all those things in your tap water out of your air. For best results, swap out the filter every two months.
