Each AirDoctor model takes its own filter set. The AD3000 and AD3500 share one, the AD5000 and AD5500 share another, and the AD1000 and AD2000 each have their own. On Air Doctor's own schedule you change the main filter every 12 months and the carbon filters every 6 months. The AD1000 is the exception: its whole filter goes every 6 months. About the AD2500: we haven't confirmed that any of our sets fit it, so we don't sell one for it. We'd rather tell you that than have you guess with the AD2000 set.
What the main, carbon and pre-filters each do
An AirDoctor pulls air through three layers. Each one catches something different and wears out on its own clock.
The pre-filter is the outside layer. It stops hair, lint and the bigger dust before they reach the filters behind it. In our AD3000/AD3500 set the pre-filters are flat black pads. In the AD5000/AD5500 set they're washable mesh.
The carbon filter handles smells and gases: cooking, pets, smoke odor, the chemical smell that comes off new furniture and paint. Activated carbon holds onto those molecules until it's full, and you can't rinse them back out, which is why carbon sits on the shorter 6-month schedule. You'll also see this layer called the VOC filter or the gas trap filter. In our AD3000/AD3500 set the carbon filters are honeycomb panels with a pull tab.
The main filter is the thick pleated panel. It traps the fine particles: dust, pollen, pet dander and smoke. It lasts the longest, 12 months on Air Doctor's schedule for every model except the AD1000.
What AirDoctor calls each filter, and where to find it
Shoppers use different names for the same three layers. The carbon layer is also called the VOC filter or the gas trap filter. The main filter is the pleated particle filter that people often search for as the HEPA filter.

AirDoctor 2000 (AD2000) replacement filters
Our AD2000 set is one main filter and two carbon pre-filters. In this set the pre-filter and the carbon layer come as one piece, so if you were searching for an AD2000 pre-filter, carbon filter, VOC filter or gas trap filter, the carbon pre-filter is the part you want. The main filter measures 14 x 12 x 2 in.
Air Doctor says to change the AD2000's main filter every 12 months and its carbon filters every 6. One main filter plus two carbon pre-filters covers that whole year, the same stretch Air Doctor's own 1-year combo pack is built around.
AirDoctor 3000 and 3500 (AD3000, AD3500) replacement filters
The AD3000 and AD3500 take the same filters. Our 5-piece set has one main filter, two carbon filters and two pre-filters, and it replaces Air Doctor part numbers 10AD350HRF01 and 10AD350GRF01. With the main filter on a 12-month schedule and carbon on 6, that's a year.

AirDoctor 1000 (AD1000) replacement filter
The AD1000 is the small one, and it runs on a shorter clock: Air Doctor says to replace its filter about every 6 months. Our AD1000 set comes with a main filter, a carbon gas trap filter and a pre-filter, and the set measures 12.5 x 7.5 x 7.5 in. Buy the 2-pack and the year is covered.
AirDoctor 5000 and 5500 (AD5000, AD5500) replacement filters
The AD5000 and AD5500 hold two main filters and two carbon filters at a time. Air Doctor's schedule replaces the main filters every 12 months and the carbon filters every 6, so our 14-piece set (2 particle filters, 4 carbon filters and 8 washable mesh pre-filters) covers one year.

Those are Air Doctor's numbers for its own filters, and they assume ordinary home use. The schedule we work from doesn't give the pre-filter a month count, so look at it whenever you change the carbon. If it's grey and matted, replace it. Shedding pets, a smoker in the house, a renovation or a bad wildfire season will all use up carbon and pre-filters faster than the calendar says.
How to change the filters
These steps come from Air Doctor's guide for the AD3000 and AD3500. You don't need tools.
- Turn the purifier off and unplug it.
- Facing the front of the unit, pull the top of the front cover toward you and lift it off.
- Lift out the old main and carbon filters by the tabs on both sides, then put the new ones in.
- Seat the cover's bottom hooks first, then snap the top back into its locked position.
- Hold the Auto and Dim buttons for 5 seconds, until the change-filter light goes off.
The AD1000, AD2000 and AD5000 open differently, but the routine is the same. Unplug it, note which way each old filter faces before you pull it, put the new ones in the same way, then reset the filter light the way your manual describes.

Do the AD3000 and AD3500 use the same filter?
Yes. Our 5-piece set and our 1-pack main filter both fit the AD3000 and the AD3500.
Will the AD2000 filter fit an AD3000 or an AD2500?
Not the AD3000. Its main filter is 17 x 14 x 2 in, and the AD2000's is 14 x 12 x 2 in. For the AD2500 we haven't confirmed a fit either way, so we don't sell any set as fitting it.
What size is the AirDoctor 3000 filter?
Our AD3000/AD3500 main filter is 17 x 14 x 2 in.
How do I tell the pieces apart in the AD3000 set?
