HTTPS stands for hypertext transfer protocol secure. It combines HTTP, hypertext transfer protocol with SSL, secure socket layer and TLS, transport layer security. The SSL/TLS transmits data securely by generating two large prime numbers and multiplying them together, also called the public key. The public key cannot be decrypted as the server only has the decrypting information, also called the private key. Thus the transmitting data arrives to it's destination securely.
